I never dreamed in a million years that I would be living close enough to my family to be hanging out with them once a month. Needless to say, I’m LOVING the proximity!
My family drove out Saturday afternoon and arrived in the evening, just in time to watch the last quarter of the BYU football game with us (disappointing ending). They soon left for their hotel as it was getting pretty late.
Sunday after church we split up: Brian, Christine, and I went and took their school pictures (coming soon), while my dad and Andrew played a few games of Dominion and my mom rested. We came back together in time to make pizza and garlic cheese bread for dinner. In our small kitchen we eat as one pizza comes out of the oven to create space to make another. It took quite awhile to make the 5-6 large pizzas that we consumed, so it was fun to hang out and talk.
My dad heroically took care of ALL the dinner dishes (and mom caught it on camera)! I was so grateful.
Monday morning Andrew and I went over to the hotel and joined my family for a swim. With a whirlpool created and doggy paddle races won, I’d say it was a rather successful beginning to the day.
Andrew then gave us a grand walking tour of Purdue campus. I’d seen bits and pieces (mostly just where he works and teaches) but it was fun to explore the whole thing. This added up to about 4+ miles of walking, so we got our exercise in for the day.
Purdue has some pretty cool fountains that are totally okay to play in. While we didn’t come prepared to get soaked (as the people standing in the middle did), we did enjoy cooling down from the mist.
This is the engineering fountain.
We also checked out the Neil Armstrong building which has a 2 gram moon-rock displayed. It looks like a tiny pebble and it took us quite awhile to find, but now we can say we’ve seen it.
After a late lunch at Arbys, my family headed home to jump back into reality. It was sure fun to have them join us for the weekend! I’m already looking forward to the next time we see them (which is when our little girl arrives, so I’ve got double reason to be excited for her to get here).
